About the Doctoral School of International Business and Economics

In 1951, the Faculty of Commerce began to offer courses to replace the Faculty of Cooperation with the Departments of Commerce and Cooperation.

Starting from 1956-1957, the Romanian Institute of Foreign Trade was integrated into the Institute of Economy and Planning (the then name of the university), and the Foreign Trade Department was established as the first step in the establishment of a faculty training in international business.

In 1974, the Faculty of Foreign Trade was established, and in the same academic year it was renamed the Faculty of International Economic Relations. The faculty under this name was maintained until 1977/78, when it was closed by a purely bureaucratic decision. In 1991, at the initiative of some faculty teachers (especially Professor Nicolae Sută, Professor George Marin, Professor Ioan Popa, Professor Silviu Neguţ and Assoc. Professor Dumitru Miron, the Faculty of International Economic Relations, resumed its activities.

Between 1990 and 2004, a number of 289 Romanian and 68 foreign doctoral students defended their doctoral thesis at the Faculty of International Economic Relations. In accordance with the new curriculum logic, based on the Bologna process, the Doctoral School of International Business and Economics has been operating since 2005.
