History – Mission – Objectives

In 1997, the Bucharest University of Economic Studies was accredited as a Doctoral Studies Organizing Institution (IOSUD) by Order of the Minister of National Education, for seven doctoral programs, including the fundamental field of Law. Currently, the Bucharest University of Economic Studies is accredited as a Doctoral Studies Organizing Institution (IOSUD) for eleven doctoral programs in the fundamental fields of Economic Sciences, Law, and Administrative Sciences.
The activity of the Doctoral School of Law is aligned with the Bucharest University of Economic Studies’ strategy to develop advanced research and consolidate doctoral studies, by capitalizing on the academic and scientific expertise of its tenured faculty members and doctoral supervisors. The Doctoral School of Law contributes to the diversification and deepening of legal research, with particular emphasis on correlating law with contemporary social and institutional dynamics.
Over time, the Doctoral School of Law has been led by distinguished personalities of the legal academic community: Prof. Dr. Brândușa Ștefănescu, Prof. Dr. Cornelia Lefter, and Prof. Dr. Mihai Bădescu.
The mission of the Doctoral School of Law is to provide advanced training, through doctoral university studies, to researchers and specialists in the field of law who are capable of conducting high-level scientific research and contributing to the development of legal knowledge. The Doctoral School of Law promotes academic excellence, scientific integrity, and interdisciplinarity, in accordance with national and international standards governing doctoral education.
In fulfilling its mission, the Doctoral School of Law pursues the following objectives: developing advanced scientific research competencies in the field of law; ensuring an appropriate academic framework for the preparation and defense of doctoral theses; encouraging doctoral candidates to participate in research activities, scientific events, and academic projects; supporting the internationalization of doctoral studies; upholding and promoting the principles of academic ethics and integrity; and increasing the visibility and impact of doctoral research within the academic and professional communities.
